We Are Crew, Not Passengers!

A rubric is a document that helps students understand success criteria for an assignment or project.   A rubric is usually made up of several learning targets because a challenging project usually has many parts to it.  When students receive a rubric, they look is over carefully and keep is in a safe place for use throughout the project.  That’s because a rubric helps students assess their own progress and clarifies next steps while they are working.  Teachers will use the rubric to give helpful feedback. Sometimes students are asked to help make a rubric by looking at strong and weak examples of work.  That is helpful because then students really understand what quality work looks like and what they need to do to create their own.
